Judaic
Studies and Hebrew Curriculum
Our
Judaic and Hebrew program is designed to give children the skills to
live their lives as knowledgeable and capable Jews.
Our Hebrew program is committed to teaching Modern Hebrew, a
language that is living and used the world over for Jews to communicate.
We enhance our instruction in Modern Hebrew with children having
total familiarity with the siddur (prayer book) and exposure to
Rabbinic and Biblical texts.
Letter
and word recognition begin during the early years with most students
reading Hebrew by the end of the first grade year.
The Intermediate years bring concentration on the basics of
grammar, building vocabulary and writing skills.
As the students reach middle school oral language usage, in-depth
writing and reading, word-processing and upper level grammar skills are
all part of the program. Our
program is leveled at each stage so that students are learning the
language at the pace that is right for them.
Our upper level graduates leave Hillel with a solid ability to
converse in Hebrew.
The Judaic component of our program strives to give children the
knowledge and skills upon which to base their future Jewish identity.
From learning about the vast holiday celebrations and traditions
in the Primary grades to comparative Judaism and the Holocaust in Middle
School, our students are exposed to a wide range of topics.
Our program encourages students to think about their place in the
world and the importance of maintaining their connection to their Jewish
community.
A complete Hebrew and Judaic curriculum is available when you visit the
school.
