Primary
Division
The Primary
Division at the Hillel school of Tampa consists of transitional kindergarten,
kindergarten
and first grade.
From the
earliest ages, our students are engaged in developing a love of
learning. language arts,
social studies, math and science are all part of the curriculum, enhanced
by art, music, library, computers and physical education.
The transitional kindergarten and kindergarten students receive one formal period a day of
Jewish studies and this increases by an additional period in first grade.
At Hillel, we believe in individualizing programs to the needs of our students and
we integrate our curriculum on many levels.
Reading and math groups are the norm for the Primary Division, with
many of Hillel students entering first grade with solid reading skills. When
first grade is completed Hillel students are independent readers and writers.
In addition, most students are able to read Hebrew towards the end of
first grade.
The math program involves manipulatives and many hands on activities to
build math skills from an early age. Graphing,
sorting, classifying and patterning are just some of the ways children are
exposed to math, each area developing as the children grow.
The social studies and science programs are thematic and encourage
children to ask questions and begin to understand how many aspects of their
world are connected.
A full Primary
curriculum is available for your review when you visit the school.
